Meet the Artists
Canmore’s Nurdjana is a Canadian vocalist who was born and raised in the Netherlands. She’s been immersed in music ever since she was little and tagged along with her father Rob de Rijcke to his performances. Rob was a singer/songwriter and guitarist and when Nurdjana started singing it was only natural to start making music together. They won a songwriter competition, recorded a demo and played lots of gigs together.
Nurdjana's sound has been described as delicate, yet soulful and jazzy. She is a true advocate of her father’s music and after taking a break from singing when he passed away, she is back full force; determined to put her dad’s music back in the spotlights.
Ellen Braun is a Canadian songstress. Starting from her perch on a tree in the Glebe, she has established herself on the indie folk music scene as a solo act and with her band Trundled. She has a giant heart, and she’s not afraid to show it on stage and in her music.
Her song “Inchoate” cracked the top 100 in CBC’s 2018 Searchlight competition. Ellen attended prestigious residencies in 2018 and 2019 at the Banff Centre for Arts and Creativity, and joined a cohort of talented musicians at Canada’s Music Incubator artist entrepreneur program in 2019. She has recorded music for film, Chasing a Trace; released the single “Okay” (recorded and produced by Howard Bilerman at the Banff Centre); and the full-length Trundled album High Water, produced by Daniel Ledwell.
Canmore-born & raised Mari Rosehill is a predominately Indie/Folk singer-songwriter, with moments of Alternative/Rock, and is often compared to a young Joni Mitchell. Her vocal range and poignant lyrics swiftly engage the audience and her honest storytelling keeps them captivated.
Mari’s songs centre around enlightenment, love and her journey with mental health and sobriety. She released her first EP/Album “A Little Unhinged, A Little Bit Weird” in October 2022 and in December, was awarded an Emerging Artist Bursary through the Town of Canmore.
Irene Poole is an actor, singer-songwriter, and composer from Banff. She has performed her songs at various venues around the Bow Valley, and graduated in 2021 with her BFA in Musical Theatre from LIU Post. Irene's indie-folk songs often take inspiration from the natural world around her, and from other strong women songwriters like Joni Mitchell and Brandi Carlile.
Irene has played the Canmore Folk Festival, shared the stage with Danny Michel, and opened for Quote the Raven at artsPlace. Her debut album was recorded in the fall of 2023, and she looks forward to releasing it in the near future. Through acting, singing, writing, and playing her ukuleles, Irene aims to be a storyteller in everything she does.
