Shannon O’Donovan tells intriguing stories about life’s experiences and artfully turns them into song rich in the themes of family, motherhood, humor, and the complexity of our relationship with the land. With a style that crosses genres, including indie folk, bluegrass and country, Shannon captures the attention of her listeners with authenticity and catchy melodies.
Shannon was born in Inuvik, NT and raised in Whitehorse, Yukon. She spent 13 years in Canmore where she started a family and brought three boys into this world. She moved to the Cariboo in the interior of BC seeking a rural life where she and her husband built a homestead and where they're raising their boys. Returning to Canmore to play a show at Canmore's artsPlace has been Shanon's dream for many years and she is delighted to have this dream realized this May. She still thinks of Canmore as her community and has nourished her ties to this beautiful corner of the world.
Shannon will bring to the stage her first full length record, Pockets of Time, which features many artists that have gathered to support her music, including her brothers Declan and Ryan O’Donovan, JUNO award-winning artists Pharis Romero and Trent Freeman, as well as some dear friends from Canmore.
Shannon will be playing the show with the support of her brother Ryan who lives in Dawson City. Ryan is a powerful performer in his silent approach that commands the listener's attention. They will also be joined by various Canmore friends throughout the show to share in this evening of music and community connection.
