"Rarely has a chamber performance moved its audience so completely" - Calgary Herald

artsPlace is excited to partner with Calgary’s renowned summer festival ChamberFest West to bring dynamic programs featuring international calibre musicians to Canmore.

ChamberFest West brings internationally acclaimed classical musicians to perform with some of Canada’s best and together they create a unique fusion of styles and interpretations.

Concert pianist Roman Rabinovich, violinist Alexi Kenney, and cellist Jonathan Swensen bring their virtuosic flair to delight audiences with a new composition by Roman and consummate interpretations of Poulenc’s Cello Sonata and Tchaikovsky’s Piano Trio in A Minor.

“a spellbinding, thoroughly honest performance that revealed his architect’s eye for structure and space and a tone that ranges from the achingly fragile to full-bodied robustness.” — THE NEW YORK TIMES on Alexi Kenney

Meet the Musicians

Roman Rabinovich

Praised by The New York Times for his ‘uncommon sensitivity and feeling’, the eloquent pianist Roman Rabinovich is renowned for his multifaceted musical artistry, earning acclaim as a soloist, curator, and collaborator. Co-artistic director of ChamberFest West with his wife, Diana Cohen, Roman is now a familiar face at artsPlace, with two performances in 2024.

Alexi Kenney

Violinist Alexi Kenney is forging a career that defies categorization, following his interests, intuition, and heart. He is equally at home creating experimental programs and commissioning new works, soloing with major orchestras around the world, and collaborating with some of the most celebrated musicians of our time. Alexi is the recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award.

Jonathan Swensen

Rising star of the cello Jonathan Swensen is the recipient of the 2022 Avery Fisher Career Grant and was recently featured as both Musical America’s ‘New Artist of the Month’ and ‘One to Watch’ in Gramophone Magazine. Jonathan performed at ChamberFest West’s Resonance Festival in the summer of 2023, wowing audiences with his mastery in Beethoven's "Archduke" Trio.
