Join the Adventure: 5 Mountain Culture Events This Season

These exhilarating screenings will keep you on the edge of your seat with adrenaline pumping content.

1. Experience the awe of exploring Canada’s High Arctic

Pascale Marceau devoted as much of her life as she could to exploring some of the highest and most remote places in Canada, never ceasing to be inspired by its grand nature. On January 16, she will share stories of surrendering to a childlike sense of wonder during her 700km ski expedition in the northern wilderness. Don't miss her presentation, Arctic Awe: Rekindling a Sense of Wonder in Canada’s Far North.

2. Be part of changing the face of adventure at a genderqueer film fest

Films are not only a vehicle of expression; they reaffirm our right to tell our own stories. Women, genderqueer, Black, Indigenous, and multiracial communities deserve this space. Over the past decade, No Man’s Land Film Festival has leveraged art, advocacy, and activism to challenge mainstream representation of what it means to be an adventurer, and to work towards creating a future where women, trans, and genderqueer folk can thrive in any sport.

Full of truly inspiring and bold films, this festival packs a punch. Join us for two screenings:

PRIDE FILMS: January 31 (includes a panel discussion with Canmore Pride)

WINTER FILMS: February 1 (rad women doing rad things)

3. Get your heart pumping with the most exciting climbing films of the year

From epic first ascents to legendary big wall routes to logic-defying climbs, for decades REEL ROCK has been unmatched in its drive to showcase some of the boldest athletes scaling up insane vertical landscapes all around the world. The 19th edition of this ever-popular film tour will be no different; screening at artsPlace March 11, 13 & 15.

4. Get inspired by fearless female athletes and adventurers

Being adventurous doesn’t always have to mean being the fastest, going the highest, or doing the most extreme things. Adventure for most of us is stepping outside our comfort zone. Come out to watch awesome women achieving their ambitious goals at this year's Women's Adventure Film Tour, March 25-28, and you might just get inspired to scale your own personal Everest.

5. Feel the thrill of reeling in a big catch in spectacular wilderness

Something for aspiring and expert anglers alike, the annual Fly Fishing Film Tour (screening May 1) builds community by showcasing the best fishing films from some of the world's most stunning & wild destinations. This exhilarating festival will take you on an epic journey through the colorful scenery of Costa Rica, Belize and Mexico, the chalk streams of Slovenia, and the remote landscapes of Guyana and Nunavik, among others!
