Look out for details in October!

Each November, the Rockies come alive with the sound of music, as hundreds of students gather in Canmore for a weekend of learning.

Vic Lewis Band Festival is a three-day, non-competitive event for high school concert and jazz bands, with instruction delivered by an international faculty of top-tier musicians and educators. Come out and hear the bands perform!

Each year, junior high and high school concert and jazz band members journey to Canmore to spend two days and nights expanding their skills, making new friends, and enriching their lives by attending workshops, giving public performances, playing for adjudicators, and listening to faculty recitals.

Over the last 24 years, Vic Lewis Band Festival has provided a safe, supportive, encouraging, and inspiring space for youth who want to express themselves artistically, expand their musical education and skills, meet like-minded people, and make lasting connections with their peers and mentors.

Festival Producer

Tracey Wilkins is the producer of the Vic Lewis Band Festival - Alberta’s largest and longest-running non-competitive festival for high school concert and jazz bands, with instruction delivered by an international faculty of top-tier musicians and educators.

She is also a jazz vocalist who loves to perform. She sings fluently in both English and French and has received several awards and accolades for her vocal performances.

Festival History

Named to honor a Canmore pioneer who introduced band music to Bow Valley students in the 1940’s, the Vic Lewis Band Festival has earned a reputation as one of the very best non-competitive music festivals in Alberta. In its 24th year, Vic Lewis attracts over 1,300 students from across the province.

Past guest directors of the festival include: Grammy-nominated performer Josh Davies; Professor of Jazz Studies & Associate Dean at University of Toronto Gordon Foote; Director of Bands at California State University and California’s Music Professor of the year (2010) Lawrence Stoffel; and three-time Latin Grammy nominee Jovino Santos Neto; to name a few.
