Film: The Secret Marathon I 7 pm

Inspired by a story of courage, a filmmaker and her legendary marathon mentor train and travel in secret to join the Afghan women who are standing up for equality by running in The Marathon of Afghanistan.

Women in Climbing: Films + Discussion with The Crush Collective

Join us for a jam packed film program highlighting women in climbing followed by a discussion led by Bow Valley’s local Crush Collective. Program includes four short films plus feature film Mama, about Polish climber Kinga Ociepka-Grzegulska as she navigates her life as a competitive climber and a mother. Supported by Get Outside.

Mountain of Laughs!
Local films + adventure stories + comedy improv with Mountain Improv Alliance and guests

Flavourful adventure stories, fantastic films and free-style comedy improv equals a mountain of laughs! This evening features improv by the Mountain Improv Alliance and a short film by Colleen Gentemann. Hosted by Canmore’s own hilarious host, Scott Dumas!

Nature Clay Pop-Up
Sat. Aug. 22 I 6-7 pm I FREE, drop-in

Drop by before Mountain of Laughs and get creative with clay and nature objects! Roll out a slab of clay, make an impression of leaves, rocks, twigs or flowers and ta da! – you’ve got a ceramic plate or wall hanging that celebrates your connection to nature. It only takes ten minutes to try this out! Pick up the finished fired product from artsPlace approx. two weeks later.

Stories of the Sacred Mountains: An Indigenous Perspective

Join Stoney Peoples as they share stories of the Rocky Mountains, the place they have called home for thousands of years. There are many reasons to be in the mountains: sometimes we seek high places for recreation and challenge, sometimes we seek them for hunting and survival or sacred and ceremonial purposes. Come reflect on your experiences in the mountains and ask questions of Stoney community members.
