Learn the secret to bringing a monologue to life and crafting a believable, compelling performance.

Bring a memorised or familiar monologue from a play to class, and work on it with your peers and an acting coach. We’ll wrap up our 3-week session by sharing our works in progress with family and friends. For emerging actors and the curious-minded alike!

Participants are invited to choose their own monologue before the Monologue Magic course begins.

When making your selection, please keep in mind that artsPlace is a family friendly, community arts center. Monologues with profanity, violence or heavy subject matter may be edited or cut at the discretion of the instructor and/or artsPlace staff. Tips & Tricks

• Please read the entire play and be familiar with it. Try to get a sense of who your character is and what drives them.

• Try to keep your monologue to roughly a minute in length.

• Try to avoid selecting a monologue where there is story-telling, remembering an event, recalling a memory, etc. Instead, choose an “active” monologue where the character is trying to achieve a goal (to convince; to sway; to defend, etc).
