Using a self-invented system that assigns colours to letters, she translates each name into vibrant abstract forms, lines, textures, and ceramic pieces, capturing the intimacy and sincerity behind each offering. Visitors are invited to contribute a small meaningful object or create one in the gallery in exchange for a handmade ceramic coin.

This exhibition reflects on the meaning of giving and receiving, considering how every act of exchange, whether physical, emotional, or symbolic—shapes our relationships, communities, and shared humanity. Through this shared ritual of language and art, Erika Germain invites us into a space of connection, memory, and love.

Erika Germain

Erika Germain explores the intimacy of language through translation, ritual, and community. Her work transforms text into visual systems, assigning each letter a specific colour; A becomes cadmium red, B ultramarine, and so on, creating a new language of colour, gesture, and form.

Blending structured and intuitive practices, Erika facilitates participatory events rooted in exchange, collaboration, and social ritual. These interactions become poetic conversations, where art objects act as linguistic surrogates, speaking sincerity, love, and connection in ways words often cannot. Through these gestures, she invites viewers to explore how genuine community and shared intimacy can emerge through the visual poetics of language.

RISE is an annual exhibition and mentorship program developed by artsPlace to offer Alberta artists the opportunity to educate, exhibit, sell, and promote their artistic practice within the Bow Valley.

The goal of RISE is to cultivate Alberta’s emerging artists by pairing an exhibition opportunity with mentorship by a local art professional. Participating artists build experience in exhibition design, installation and professional practice.
