5 Delightful Things To Do at artsPlace as a Family

Spend quality time together this winter with fun, family-focused performances and activities!

1. Enjoy a live performance from the Calgary Opera

This season’s Family Opera is a Canadian premiere of Nino Rota’s The Witty Squirrel, playing live at artsPlace on Feb. 22. Known for his famous film scores like The Godfather and La Dolce Vita, Rota’s cinematic style gives life to this vibrant children's tale about embracing talents, facing challenges, and making wise choices.

2. Watch free family movies in the artsPlace theatre

Once a month on Fridays, you can watch free movies that are perfect for the whole family. Grab some popcorn and enjoy the upcoming screenings of Robot Dreams on Jan. 24, or Transformers One on March 7.

3. Dive into delightful art projects together

Every Sunday at artsPlace is filled with laughter and art-making at the free Family Sunday artsPlay workshops where we get creative with fun craft projects for every age group. Additionally, on select Saturdays this winter, we will host art workshops instructed in French at Les Ateliers Artistiques en Famille.

4. Encourage your child’s musical skills

Enjoy a music moment together and encourage your child’s musical literacy skills such as rhythm, pitch-matching and beat awareness at the free weekly Mini Melodies workshops, starting Jan. 13. Storytelling, instrument playing, movement and puppet play make each week a new adventure.

5. Learn to hand-build with clay in a playful environment

Join ceramics artist Marzena Pustelnik for a special evening of hand-building with clay at Grand Creative Clay on March 13. Sign up as a duo (grandparent/grandchild) - this workshop is meant to encourage spending creative time with your loved ones across a generation!
