Creative Combat Artist Call

Creative Combat is back and we're looking for bold, brave, and creative visual artists from the

Bow Valley to step into the ring. This high-energy live painting competition challenges artists to

create original works of art in just 20 minutes. It’s fast. It’s fun. And it’s unforgettable.

It takes courage to paint live in front of a crowd. But that’s exactly what makes Creative Combat

so unique. Whether you're an emerging artist or an established professional, participating in

Creative Combat is a chance to showcase your work to a supportive crowd of arts lovers and

make connections that can help you grow your artistic practice.

Most importantly, you’ll be helping raise vital funds to support arts programs that make the Bow

Valley a more creative, connected, and vibrant place to live. Your generosity does not go

unnoticed!

All participating artists will receive:

  • An honorarium of $200
  • Access to acrylic paints, materials, and space to practice
  • Mentorship from an established artist (optional)

We strongly encourage new and established artists of all backgrounds, experiences, and

abilities to apply. artsPlace is committed to creating an inclusive, accessible, and supportive

culture where everyone can contribute, thrive, and grow.

If you need support during the application process, in the lead-up to the event, or on the day

itself, we’re happy to work with you.

Applications open: April 22, 2025

Deadline to apply: Friday, May 23, 2025 at 12 p.m.

Spread the word! If you know a Bow Valley artist who would love this experience, please share

this opportunity.

FAQ - Creative Combat Artist Call

What does Creative Combat look like?

· An evening with a fun party vibe, DJ, emcees, food and drinks. The audience mixes and mingles as the first set of 6 artists take their places at their easels.

· There will be 2 “rounds”, with each round being 20 minutes long, and the artist with the most votes winning the event:

· Round #1: 6 artists are introduced with a personalized video introduction, then the painting begins, and the audience cheers them on!

· Round #2: Same process with 6 new artists.

· After each round, the audience votes for their favourite painting. At the end of the second round, the overall winner is announced and given a prize. ALL artists are recognized and thanked for being great sports and helping to support artsPlace!

In the words of a veteran artist, “Remember that it’s just all for fun. It’s not about competing with other people, it’s about creating fun.”
