Contemporary Surrealist Painter: I am driven by a need to create and endlessly fascinated by the complexities of the 'human condition'. Female characters in a dream-like state - often discovered amiss a moment of great realization - comprise the majority of my work. Photographer: This quote has stuck with me and articulates my feelings perfectly: "A photograph is a secret about a secret. The more it tells you, the less you know".-unknown

Dawn Saunders Dahl

Since 2007, I have been actively exploring my own story through ceramics, drawing, painting as well as public art projects. Increasingly I’ve begun to use more unconventional tools such as photography, audio and video capture, soil sampling, as well as research into farming and food production. I also teach portrait and landscape drawing in clay and paint!

I work in series and sets of mathematical multiples to best explore topics arising in my questioning mind and critical practice. My paintings and prints address the socio-political issues of age and gender through a style that combines my childhood interest in patchwork quilt designs with geometric and contemporary abstract art; and a style that combines my youthful enthusiasms with my mature deliberations in large, expressive blocks of color and sweeping lines.

Beth Cairn’s passions are downhill and backcountry skiing, mountain biking, hiking and the mountains. She expresses this through her art and passion for woodworking which she inherited from her Uncle, a master woodworker in Ste. Adele, Quebec. Each piece is drawn on a tableau of wood then the negative space removed using a rotary tool, a router to soften the edges and further details by hand. She then paints them with acrylic paint and frames each with solid fir.
