Tessa Mendoza

Associate Manager of Programs

Tessa Mendoza was born and raised by immigrant school teachers in Northern Alberta. She moved to the Rocky Mountains after completing a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology from the University of Alberta. She found her lifelong partner, and they set their roots down in Canmore in 1995. Through simultaneous careers as a mother of two artistic kids, a restaurant owner, and working in a health related field, she developed versatile management skills, and a strong compassionate connection to her community.

As an artist, Tessa has had a lifelong love for paper-folding, a deep passion for paper-making, and has sold her handmade clothing designs at local artisan markets. She has exhibited her origami artworks with the Canmore Artist Guild, and has performed folding of large life-sized origami sculptures.

Tessa has been an instructor at artsPlace since 2017. She has taught the Art-astic Fridays programs, Kids’ Art Camps, workshops at the Festival of Art and Creativity, and adult classes in paper arts, textile arts, and sewing. Tessa brings a sharing approach to teaching where creativity is nurtured, and techniques are developed in an encouraging space.

In her spare time, Tessa enjoys building with Lego bricks, and may be seen sharing the secret and fun of dancing with a hula hoop with the Bow Valley community.
