Flavourful adventure stories, fantastic local films and free-style comedy improv equals a mountain of laughs! This evening features a film by local filmmaker Andy Arts, an episode from the Frick, I Love Nature series, a funny poem by Tim Murphy, the best stories from Wade Graham’s How to Win the Night of Lies storytelling workshop, and hilarious comedy sketches by Mountain Improv Alliance. Hosted by beloved local stand-up comedian Scott Dumas.
Andy Arts is a Bow Valley filmmaker who burst onto the scene by winning the Night of Lies in 2015. He followed his mocumentary debut with a few more funny pokes at climbers, including Beyond the Gym, a look at sport climbers who try climbing outside. Since then he's produced episodes for Wild TV and promotional pieces for Yamnuska Mountain Adventures. His film Kananaskis Mystery will entertain audiences with suspense and humour!
Frick, I Love Nature is a comedy nature show led by Gordie Lucius who is wildly uncomfortable in and around nature, but loves it anyways. In each episode Gordie dives head first into a specific question about nature, and uncovers it’s weirdest, most shocking facts. Using playfully awkward interviews with experts, quirky animations and stellar nature facts, Frick, I Love Nature remains incredibly entertaining while quenching your curiosity for some sweet natural history. The show was co-created by Stephen Robinson and Gordie Lucius of Edmonton AB, and co-written by Annie Pumphrey of Canmore!
Night of Lies is an infamous evening that celebrates adventure and the age-old art of storytelling. In partnership with Night of Lies, Mountain of Laughs evening will feature a few of the best stories from expert fibber Wade Graham's storytelling workshop!
The Mountain Improv Alliance (MIA) is Canmore’s local improvisational theatre troupe. With a membership consisting of all ages from teens to retirees, the MIA works to promote creative expression with weekly drop-in nights, workshops, and performances.
