Ali Morrison The Stone Soup Studio
Ali Morrison is a classical pianist and arts educator, recently moved to Canmore after many years in Europe. She is a senior examiner for the RCM, adjudicator and lecturer presenting many workshops and educational talks for a variety of Arts Institutions. She has performed, recorded, lectured and taught at numerous Post-Secondary Arts Institutions across Canada, the U.S., New Zealand, Spain, the UK and Ireland. Ali was a regular summer faculty member at Suny Purchase and Vasser in NY, as well as in Denver Co, and at the University of Eugene Oregon. Her students have won numerous awards, most recently a 13 yr old student was awarded the European Piano Teachers Association Cup. Ms. Morrison was the featured subject in a TVO documentary on Artists and Philosophy, and an independent film was made about her work in the U.S. with street kids making music on found objects in open space and empty inner city structures. Ali worked in an outreach program in remote villages of Peru, using music on found objects as a means of teaching language and self-directed education. Ms. Morrison has been invited internationally to present her "Finger Gym" pedagogy program in Piano Teachers conferences and workshops. Her training methodology promotes accelerated development in young pianists through coordination exercises, wrist and thumb mobility and mental coordination. She has presented workshops and training programs on the Development of Creative Thought and has been invited to participate in seminars with multi-disciplinary artists on the area of 'Creating Artists and Artistry". She has been heard on numerous radio programs on the subject of Arts Education and an invited Panel speaker at teachers conferences. In Ireland, Ali created and directed the annual " Festival of Lights - Procession of Lights" and "It Takes A Village of Children" non profit festivals bringing communities together through the direct creative efforts of children. Her ! BOOM ! She Said " Mass Percussion events are popular at community arts festivals, bringing all ages together to play on found objects. In New Zealand, she directed a 45 minute non-stop unique improvised percussion event bring together 175 people at one time to perform . Ms. Morrison also creates unique Glass Music events to raise money for charities - these are meditative visual and sound performances in which everyone becomes a musician and composer for the evening. Ali is passionate about the need for everyone to have a 'voice of their own' and is building a piano studio in Canmore.
